Tripping Up Trump (TUT) has established itself as the popular movement against the use of compulsory purchase for private profit. TUT's campaign has stood alongside the people and protected environment threatened by Donald Trump’s development in Aberdeenshire.
The TUT campaign has been key to Donald Trump's retreat from the use of compulsory purchase orders.
The threat of forced evictions was deliberately held over the heads of the Menie families for nearly two years. Donald Trump's track record shows he cannot be trusted to behave reasonably towards his neighbours or act responsibly towards the environment.
TUT Tactics
We employed a lot of different techniques to highlight the wrong of the Trump development, here are some of our favourites:
The Bunker
The March of Menie
Menie Voices
The Main Events
A number of events were also hosted to raise awareness and show our support to the residents:
A Voice for the Voiceless
The threat of forced evictions was deliberately held over the heads of the Menie families for nearly two years. Donald Trump's track record showed he could not be trusted to behave reasonably towards his neighbours or act responsibly towards the environment.
The residents of Menie turned to the traditional avenues of support for help in their situation, the government, the police and the local press, but they found closed doors, as the bullying tactics and railroading of the Trump development were kept under the carpet.
Tripping Up Trump was a voice for the local residents, allowing their story to reach a wider audience and tell Scotland and the world how they had been treated and making it as difficult as possible for Trump to continue.
A Land Worth Protecting
The dunes and eco-system within Menie was unique, holding the classification of a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It's a beautiful land that had been home to wildlife.
Sadly, what made the Menie Dunes beautiful and unique, has been destroyed by Trump. A Site of Special Scientific Interest has been lost. Trump likes to think he's improved on nature and made it even more special.
One of the planning conditions was meant to be for Trump to have put a bond of money in place, in case the project was not fulfilled, which seems increasingly likely. Unfortunately it seems that planning condition may have been left out too.
Committed to the Cause
TUT was successful in deterring Trump and his organisation from pursuing a Compulsory Purchase Order against the residents of Menie. He has publicly declared this is an avenue he will no longer pursue.
As good as this sounds, we've seen Trump go back on his word many times before and we're not going to take our eyes off the development at Menie.
We are committed to the residents of Menie and ensuring that Trump doesn't use his bullying tactics any further. We are a movement and we are always ready to move. In the absence of support from traditional avenues we have been a voice for the local residents and we will continue do all we can to protect the residents of Menie and ensure that any damage to the beautiful dunes of Menie is as small as possible.
We'd love to hear from you
Tripping Up Trump is run by volunteers and therefore we ask for a bit of patience if you're trying to get in touch with us.
We will endeavour to update this site with any new developments in the Trump saga and there's loads of information on the site about the actions that Tripping Up Trump has taken as well as the wider story of the development. If you're looking for information on that a good place to start is the timeline.
Otherwise, if you'd like to get in touch the best place to do that is through our facebook page which we regularly update and check. We'd love to hear from you.
